Contraception
All the doctors are trained in contraception and see people by appointment. Free condoms are available from the reception. Prescriptions for contraceptives are free. Free contraceptive care is also available from the Margaret Pyke Centre (73 Charlotte Street London W1 Tel. 020 3317 3737). Further information can be obtained from the fpa website. Emergency contraception If you have had sex without using contraception or think that your contraception has not worked then you can use emergency contraception. The emergency pill method can be used up to 3 days and the intrauterine device method up to 5 days and some times longer after sex. The emergency pill method is more effective if started within 24 hours. Please telephone or call at reception, explaining that you wish to see a nurse for emergency contraception. (Please be prepared to wait when attending for this service.) You can also buy emergency contraception from pharmacists and obtain it free from family planning clinics. Sexually transmitted infections (STI) Full screening for STI, including HIV, is available free at the Mortimer Market Clinic, Capper Street, London WC1 Tel. 020 3317 5100. We recommend cervical smear (pap) tests every three years between 25 and 50 years of age and then every five years until 64 years of age as part of the national screening programme.
